Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick admits the club needs at least a striker to strengthen the squad for next season.
The Victory too often relied on Archie Thompson last term and are now lacking firepower up forward following the serious knee injury he sustained in Saturday's A-League Grand Final.
Ex-Brisbane Roar forward Robbie Kruse needs help on the attacking line and Central Coast Mariners loanee Nik Mrdja cannot be the answer as he returns to Gosford at the end of the Victory's Asian Champions League campaign.
Merrick told AAP that the club will definitely search for one or two strikers during the off-season.
"There's no doubt we need to look at signing strikers first and foremost - certainly one, maybe two quality strikers," he said.
"They're not easy to find but that's what we'll be doing."
Rumours linking former Celtic, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United striker Mark Viduka with the Victory were rubbished by Merrick earlier this week.
