Melbourne Victory are in negotiations with betting agency Centrebet for potential sponsorship. Victory's current sponsor, Samsung, will not continue their affiliation with the championship-winning club and Centrebet have emerged as the front runners.
A-League rivals Newcastle Jets already have an association with the agency but Centrbet spokesman Neil Evans said that would not pose a problem for Melbourne.
"We've been talking to them for some time," Evans said.
"If we wanted to, that wouldn't stop us," he added in regards to Jets situation.
"It's a matter of how much we want to dedicate to the A-League itself Melbourne Victory is a major attraction, they present a very good case as far as its front office goes, its success on the pitch and its fan base which is not just the best now but has been the best since it kicked a ball in the A-League."
Despite two Melbourne players being embroiled in a betting misdemeanor in December, Evans said that would not be a problem.
"Not at all," he said.
"That was just a big overkill. There is so much traffic going on now between betting agencies and sporting organisations big and small that there is no stigma about it (receiving support from bookmakers) at all."
