Melbourne Victory sign youth team captain Theodore

Melbourne Victory have signed youth team captain Mathew Theodore on a one-year deal.

The inaugural Victory Youth Medallist becomes the first player form the youth squad to progress through to the senior ranks.

Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole was delighted to announce the news.

"Mathew was the inaugural captain of our National Youth League side, winner of the first Victory Youth Medal and is an exciting young talent who deserves his chance in the Hyundai A-League," said Cole.

"He's a creative midfielder who is technically very gifted and difficult to get the ball from.

"Mathew spent a lot of time with the senior squad last season and has been rewarded for his efforts with a contract that will give him a chance to establish himself."

The 19-year old says he is relishing the opportunity to become a senior Victory member.

"This is a fantastic opportunity and one that I'm really excited about," said Theodore.

"I spent a lot of time with the senior team last season, which was a good experience. It allowed me to get to know the players and, just as importantly, it showed me what it takes to win a premiership and championship.

"The next year will be a great challenge and one that I'm really looking forward to."
