Melbourne Victory intent on keeping Hernandez

Melbourne Victory managing director Richard Wilson is hoping that the club can hang onto the services of star midfielder Carlos Hernandez.

The Costa Rican comes out of contract at the end of the A-League season, which for the Victory ends on the weekend, and the two-time champions will make it a priority to retain his quality says Wilson.

"Now we're at the end of our season, we've started negotiations with Carlos and his management over a new deal," Wilson said.

"Carlos has stamped himself as a fan-favourite over the years and players of his quality are extremely hard to find, so we'll be working hard to get this over the line.

"Our club is entering into a period of significant change and I'm sure Carlos, along with the other players, is excited by the prospect of a fresh start next season."
