Melbourne Victory could pay big money for Hernandez

Melbourne Victory are considering paying the hefty transfer fee for midfielder Carlos Hernandez. The playmaker is currently on loan from Costa Rican club LD Alajuelense but the Victory are keen to snare him permanently.

Alajuelense have put a $920,000 price tag on Hernandez but the Victory may work with that and will begin dealing next week after the A-League grand final is over.

"We want to keep Carlos if we can," Victory chairman Geoff Lord said.

"We've been spending a lot of time on it and we'll be making it a priority as soon as Saturday is out of the way.

"The club has a $US600,000 ($920,000) transfer fee on him, so we'll be working on that."
