Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson believes the Brisbane Roar have been given too much credit thus far.

The league leaders have received plenty of adulation so far this season but Thompson, who has been a key part of two A-League championship-winning teams with the Victory, says they are yet to achieve anything.

“They haven't actually won anything yet," Thompson said of the Roar.

"We've won two championships and two minor premierships, so until they actually win something they can't say they're at a Melbourne Victory level.

"But the football they're playing, they're definitely the best team out there at the moment."

Thompson knows what the Victory are capable of producing when they put 90 minutes of football together and feels if they can do that this Friday night against the Roar, then anything can happen for the remainder of the campaign.

"Clubs in the A-League, once they see Melbourne start playing well and start scoring goals, obviously are going to be very nervous," he added.

"With Brisbane, if we put in a good performance and get a win, I'm sure that's going to spook everyone ... if we win this game our season's going to be set up for a good finish."
