Melbourne Victory midfielder Carlos Hernandez has been called up to the Costa Rican national team.
The 27-year old will be a part of the squad that takes on Mexico at home on September 5 and El Salvador away four days later in World Cup qualifying.
Hernandez was on fire for the Victory last week, scoring two brilliant goals in the club's 3-3 draw with Brisbane Roar at Etihad Stadium.
Victory coach Ernie Merrick was thrilled Hernandez is in line for an international recall.
"He's playing terrific football," Merrick said yesterday.
"I've said to get the coach to call me any time he likes and I will recommend him. They're doing well and it's great motivation to be able to represent your country at the World Cup, which is the pinnacle.
"We're doing everything we can to encourage players with international ambitions. We're backing Carlos and anyone else 100 per cent in terms of selection."
