Melbourne kid Mason to make Italian Cup history

The left-back has been a mainstay of Genoa's successful Cup run this season and he is now preparing to face AC Milan in the final.

Plucked from Bulleen's junior team last year, Mason has been successfully converted by the Genoa coaching staff from a midfielder to an attacking left-back and was outstanding in his team's come-from-behind semifinal victory at AS Roma.

"It's been an amazing experience," Mason told tribalfootball.com last night. "We really deserve our place in the final. We've beaten Roma and Empoli along the way and we have no fear coming up against Milan.

"It's news to me that I'll be the first Aussie to make it this far, but I'm obviously very proud. The whole club is behind us and we could make it a great month for Genoa with promotion for the senior team and also us winning the Youth Cup."
