Melbourne Heart midfielder Matt Thompson is ready to return to former club Newcastle Jets.
The 27-year old made his name at EnergyAustralia Stadium as a foundation player, games record holder and club captain but decided a career move was in his best interests when the Heart joined the A-League and is now set to face the Jets at their home ground on Friday night.
''Newcastle [was] great towards me and I left on great terms so I am looking forward to going back there,'' Thompson told The Age.
''If anything I might feel a little bit more comfortable [at EnergyAustralia Stadium than at AAMI Park].
''You want to catch them on a bad day. I like to think if we get on top early we can get away with a win.
''The boys are quietly confident. We were a bit disappointed with the score [against the Mariners] but everyone was a bit upbeat to get that first [game] out of the way. It would have been nice to get something out of it. We put [the loss] behind us straight away.
"There's no reason we can't do a number on Newcastle.''
