Melbourne Heart confirm talks with Viduka

Melbourne Heart coach John van 't Schip has confirmed the club has held talks with former Socceroos striker Mark Viduka. The 34-year old former Celtic, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Newcastle striker has not played since his contract with the Magpies ended at the end of last season but the fact he has not officially announced his retirement prompted the Heart to sound out if he is still keen to continuing playing.

van 't Schip confirmed to the Herald Sun that the incoming A-League club were in contact with Viduka but they did not discuss anything specific.

"I've spoken with him," the Dutchman said yesterday.

"It was a good talk. We have made agreement we will catch up one day again and see how we can go on further.

"We didn't really speak about specific things. We just talked to know each other and what we could do for each other."

van 't Schip kept his cards close to his chest when quizzed further and just said it was far too early to tell what would happen.

"I'm not going to talk about what we talked about. We had a talk and that's about it. That's the first step maybe and it could be interesting," he added.
