The A-League's second Melbourne club will not be pursuing Lothar Matthaus as coach. The former German World Cup-winning captain approached Melbourne Heart through representatives in regards to the vacant role but it seems the new franchise, which will play in the A-League next season, are keen for a Dutch tactician.
"We won't be pursuing (Matthaus)," Heart chairman Peter Sidwell said yesterday.
"We wouldn't be going down that path. We are pursuing someone else at this time."
Reports suggest that although the identity of the Dutchman is unknown, he has been to Melbourne on an inspection tour for talks with Heart and the deal is believed to be imminent.
