Melbourne Heart announce Everton friendly

New A-League club Melbourne Heart have confirmed they will take on English Premier League club Everton in a pre-season friendly. The Toffees will be in Australia for a three-week pre-season tour which will take in matches against the Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC as well as a July 14 meeting with the Heart in Melbourne's brand new AAMI Park.

At this stage, Everton have not asked their internationals to make the trip as it coincides with the end of the World Cup in South Africa meaning Socceroos star Tim Cahill may not make it down under, however, he was positive that the trip would be of benefit to both Everton and Australian football.

"I think it's fantastic for Australian football and also Everton because Australia's got a massive following of Everton supporters,'' Cahill told Everton's official website.

"They're a proud following and I think for a Premier League team like Everton to grace the shores of Australia is absolutely massive.''

Toffees boss David Moyes said it was a great opportunity to test his players in a different environment, albeit an environment that is of top quality.

"The facilities there are first class and that's important to us because the training and the games will be a good part of our pre-season preparations,'' Moyes added.

"Thanks to Tim Cahill, the Aussies know all about Everton and I am sure we'll get a typically warm Australian welcome.''
