Melbourne coach Merrick not thinking about statistics

Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick is not getting wrapped up in statistics ahead of this weekend's A-League Grand Final. Many pundits are calling for an Adelaide win due to the 'law of averages' because the Reds have not beaten the Victory in their last five attempts and are due for a win.

But Merrick doesn't think about these types of things and will prepare the same way he has every game this season.

"It was said before the last game against Adelaide that it must be time for them to win," Merrick told the Herald Sun.

"They are the types of thoughts that can distract you from doing well and the team from performing well.

"The law of averages doesn't play a role in what we do," he added.

"We deal in realism and how we go about the job and that's what our focus is on. We've been spending all year on that.

"Our preparation has been outstanding and our focus is on what we're capable of doing."
