Melbourne City thrilled to add former Hull captain Koren

Melbourne City FC head coach John van 't Schip was over the moon after confirming the signing of Robert Koren as the A-League club's international marquee player.

The 33-year old Slovenian midfielder has joined City from English Premier League club Hull City on a two-year deal, filling the Melbourne outfit's international marquee position and fourth international spot on the roster.

Upon the completion of the signing of the contract, van 't Schip was full of praise of Koren who represented Slovenia on 61 occasions including at the 2010 World Cup.

"Robert is someone who we feel can add something extra to the team and can help us get to the next level," said the Dutchman.

"He is a team player who we believe will contribute well and help our entire squad reach their full potential and help deliver results."

Koren started his career with homeland club NK Dravograd in 1996 before joining Celje in 2001. He then made the move to Norway with Lillestrom in 2004 and onto England with West Bromwich Albion three years later.

Whilst with the Baggies, Koren made 149 appearances in all competitions, helping the West Midlands club to the 2007/08 Championship title.

In 2010, Koren joined Hull where he went on to play 151 times while captaining the club during the 2013/14 Premier League season.
