Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has urged fans to start backing defender Danny Shittu.

"Danny didn't have the best of debuts against Northampton in the Carling Cup," he recalled. "Since then, he has done okay.

"But I think he gets judged a little more harshly than other people. He did make a mistake early on against Wigan and took a real chance trying to tackle Emile Heskey on the edge of the box. The referee didn't give a penalty, fair enough, but the reaction was not the same as if other players made the same mistake.

"That seems to be the case with a few of them."
