West Brom caretaker boss Gary Megson admits banning coach Ben Garner from the training ground due to his personality.
Garner, who was promoted to joint No 2 by Pulis in September 2016, has been told to stay away from West Brom's training ground while Megson, who was also assistant head coach, is making the decisions.
Megson said: "They told me what had happened with Tony [Pulis] and I'd be charge in the interim. From that moment on, you switch into what you've done in the past.
"I've done this for nearly 700 games and been a manager for a long long time. I just wanted to do what I felt was right for the football club.
"We've got some really good coaches here, Mark O'Connor, Jonathan Gould, and we've got other analysts – Carl Blakemore is terrific at his job.
"It was just something I felt we needed on the back of what happened to Tony, we needed to lift that mood, have bouncy people, enthusiastic people."
He added: "There's nobody here that's using this as an audition to push forward the West Brom job, myself included.
"We're all here to roll our sleeves up and try to get the players in the right frame of mind to go out and compete.
"It is not a negative on anybody, it is just how I would choose to run the team. It was just my choice on what is a peculiar period."
