Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has explained his extra relief in securing Gary Cahill to a new contract.
The Daily Mail says Megson has revealed that Bolton wiped out an £8million escape clause in Cahill's contract when they tied their £15m-rated central defender to a new three-year deal earlier this month.
Everton and Tottenham were two of four Barclays Premier League clubs to enquire about the 23-year-old.
Megson said: "I'm ecstatic he's signed again because there was something in his contract that worried the life out of me."
