McParland: Man Utd FA Youth Cup clash biggest at Liverpool in years

Liverpool academy chief Frank McParland admits their FA Youth Cup quarterfinal with Manchester United is massive.

In his column for liverpoolfc.tv, McParland wrote: "The FA Youth Cup quarter-final is probably the biggest game I've been involved in since returning to the Academy in 2009 and we are anticipating a real heavyweight battle.

"Expectation seems to have soared since our 9-0 win over Southend but it's crucial that we treat our opponents with the utmost respect. They have some brilliant players and we are going to have to be right 'at it' if we are to make the last four.

"The rivalry between the two clubs is very intense but if you asked me to pick a side to go up against at youth level, I would always plump for Man United.

"It's simply because of the way they work with their youngsters. They aim to play good football and their philosophy is similar to ours. They have a true winning mentality and that is what we want to instil throughout our own system.

"It is going to be one of the biggest tests yet for Rodolfo's (Borrell) side and I have to admit I would love us to progress into the last four. It would be great for the kids and the club as a whole."
