Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has been using predecessor Gerard Houllier as a sounding board.
The Mirror says McLeish has spoken to Houllier about the Villa squad he is inheriting.
Houllier has even advised McLeish to retain out-of-contract ace Nigel Reo-Coker, 27, who is Villa's only holding midfielder.
Reo-Coker is a free agent and can speak to rival clubs but may still end up penning fresh terms at Villa.
