McLeish tipping Birmingham's Johnson for England call-up

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has predicted centre-half Roger Johnson will soon win an England call-up after the defender produced another impressive display in City's 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage. However Johnson's display alongside Scott Dann at the heart of the City defence won him more plaudits from McLeish and the defender could have been a goal hero had his late header found the net instead of the crossbar.

"Scott is younger and will be under the spotlight for the next couple of years," said McLeish, who today celebrates his third year at St. Andrews.

"Roger has played down the divisions for a few years and is now 27, and he doesn't want it to pass him by.

"He is desperate to play for England and when you look at some of the other players who have been touted, I think Roger is definitely capable of being named in that bunch of players and easily capable of playing, even if Fabio Capello gives him just one. He will be able to say he played for England and you could never take that away from him."
