Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish was pleased with the point from their 1-1 draw with Newcastle United.
James McFadden punished some poor defending to put the Blues ahead but the visitors were much improved in the second half and grabbed an equaliser through Michael Owen.
"If we'd won tonight, it wouldn't have meant we'd be safe and if we'd lost it wouldn't have meant we'd be relegated," McLeish said.
"Newcastle deserved it with their second-half performance and we deserved to be leading at half-time, it was the proverbial game of two halves.
"I thought Newcastle's international players made a difference. I thought Michael Owen became an influence. Nicky Butt came into the game as well."
McLeish was pleased Birmingham maintained their impressive home record.
"The positives to take is we're very difficult to beat here," he said. "Chelsea are the only team to beat us since I came to the club. We've drawn a lot of games but we're giving anybody a game and a half.
"There's a lot to play for, it's what happens now that's the key."
Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan believes if the Magpies repeat their second-half performance in future matches, they will avoid relegation.
"On chances second half you might think we might have gone on to win it but Maik Taylor's made a great save from Michael Owen, and then Michael stuck one in," Keegan said.
"First half, we weren't good enough but we've stuck at it and at times we haven't done that.
"There were some really good performances in Newcastle shirts tonight. I thought Geremi was outstanding and Butty (Nicky Butt) and Joey Barton in midfield. They gave us a bit of an engine room.
"They all put in a shift and if they keep doing that we'll be all right."
The 1-1 draw extended Newcastle's winless run under Keegan to nine matches, but the former England boss is confident a victory is in sight.
"We know we've got a win in us and our next game's against Fulham at home so maybe that's when it'll be," he added.
