McLeish insists Rangers target Cuellar will have to fight for Villa spot

Alex McLeish says that Rangers target Carlos Cuellar will have to fight for his spot at Aston Villa.

The former Scotland and Rangers boss, who has taken over at Villa Park after he quit his post at Birmingham City last weekend, has confirmed that Spanish defender Cuellar is of interest to 'Gers.

McLeish did not reveal whether or not Cuellar would be returning to Ibrox but did say he would have to work extremely hard to win his place in the Villa team.

"Carlos has an injury and the physios will keep me up to date as to when he will be ready again," he said.

"I know there is interest from Rangers, but it may be we will have to keep Carlos and he has to fight for his place again. Every player will start with a clean slate."
