Derek McInnes wants his Aberdeen side to write their own names into the clubs history books.
The Dons are through to the Scottish League Cup final after beating St Mirren 4-0 at Tynecastle on Saturday thanks to a double from Jonny Hayes and further goals from Peter Pawlett and Adam Rooney.
It has them into the decider where they will meet Inverness on March 16 and in with a chance of securing their first piece of silverware since the 1996 League Cup.
Aberdeen were unsuccessful in their pursuit of both the Scottish Cup and League Cup in 2000, which could bring with it some doubt for the final next month, but McInnes says it is not for his group of players to worry about past failures.
"Obviously we can't affect what's happened in the past, whether it's history that was good or disappointments," he said.
"This is our team's first chance of a final together and they have done it and they deserve great credit for that, regardless of what's happened previously at Aberdeen.
"They have a fantastic work ethic and a great spirit and they have a great winning mentality. They now have a chance to lift a trophy which is a fantastic opportunity and we look forward to it.
"A lot of questions are always asked about Aberdeen teams - when the level of support that we got today and when expectation comes, that we fall short. And I think that's unfair to put that on these players.
"The players responded the right way. They have been consistent all season and have handled tough ties in the cup."
