McIlroy expects Man Utd veteran Giggs to make playing decision in January

Former Manchester United star Sammy McIlroy expects a decision from Ryan Giggs in January about playing on next season.

Giggs' start against Sociedad was his fourth of the season, not bad for a bloke close to his 40th birthday.

"It is just unbelievable what Giggsy is doing," McIlroy told the Manchester Evening News. "It's testament to the boy how he has looked after himself.

"After 90 minutes against Sociedad, he was running by the strikers to get into the box. That is unbelievable.

"However, there is no hiding the fact he is in the twilight of his career. So Giggsy is not going to be long term.

"So, somewhere along the line it maybe the manager dips into the transfer market. Whether it is a midfielder or a striker, I am not sure.

"However, don't forget this is a Championship-winning squad. The base is there. The manager is just sorting things out, taking his time to decide his best starting 11.

"Come January, he will know then if he needs to do anything or stick with what he already has."
