McGrath: Man Utd must not pressure Van Gaal to keep Giggs

Former Manchester United defender Paul McGrath says Louis van Gaal shouldn't be forced to keep hold of Ryan Giggs.

Former Manchester United defender Paul McGrath says Louis van Gaal shouldn't be forced to keep hold of Ryan Giggs.

McGrath wrote in the Sunday World: "Louis van Gaal is the right man to lead Manchester United into a new era – and I really hope the club don’t allow any sentiments towards Ryan Giggs to cloud their judgment when they appoint their new manager.

"I would expect a man of van Gaal’s stature to get United up and going again, as he has a track record of success around the world for many years – but I hope that the club are not trying to dictate to him who he has on his coaching staff.

"It would be ideal if van Gaal sees a place for Giggs in his set-up, but the primary mission is to get the right Manchester United manager in place and he has to be allowed to get on with the job as he sees fit."
