Mark McGhee was upbeat after his Motherwell side limited AS Nancy to a single goal victory in the opening leg of their UEFA Cup first round clash. Pascal Berengeur's diving header gave the hosts the only goal of the game and McGhee feels the result offers his team an opportunity to progress when the sides meet again in two weeks time.
He said: "I didn't think we played well, but 1-0 gives us a right good chance. I think it is a good result for us."
Motherwell had Graeme Smith to thank after the goalkeeper pulled off an excellent one-handed stop to deny Nancy a second from the penalty spot.
McGhee added: "It was a brilliant save for the penalty. I'm pleased for him - you've got to have your goalie playing well on a night like this."
