Birmingham have revealed that James McFadden has picked up a knee injury which may require surgery. The Scotland international sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage to his left knee in training on Friday.
He will now have to watch from the sidelines as Blues face Midlands rivals West Brom over the weekend, before seeing a specialist on Monday with a view to surgery.
Birmingham have confirmed that he will be out of action for the 'foreseeable future', with the news coming as a major blow both to the player and manager Alex McLeish.
The 27 year old, who moved to St Andrews from Everton in January 2008, has featured in all four of the club's Premier League games so far this season.
