Jay McEveley says Derby County boss Paul Jewell has the makings of a quality defence with the January arrivals of goalkeeper Roy Carroll (Rangers) and defender Alan Stubbs (Everton).
"You could see against Wigan they were solid at the back.
"They did really well and kept Wigan at bay for most of the game but there were a few of us below par, including myself.
"As long as you've got that spine in the team and Roy in the net, who's a big voice as well, you can build around it and that's we want to do."
