Dave McDonough's departure from West Bromwich Albion has been welcomed by players, it has been revealed.
McDonough has left his post as director of technical performance and scouting by mutual consent.
The Birmingham Mail says McDonough had become a regular presence on the training ground and was cited as one of the reasons for recent unrest with players, particularly during the recent trip to Spain.
There were further issues concerning McDonough's growing influence behind the scenes, not least his interference in coaching matters before Mel's appointment - notably, it has emerged, an attempt to deliver an impromptu and unwelcome team-talk during half-time of Albion's game against Newcastle on New Year's Day, a gesture which went down badly with the club's players and, particularly, the coaching staff.
Sources also claim there was significant unease and confusion within the club's scouting and recruitment department.
