McDonough eager to build brand new Orlando City team with Heath

Orlando City's new senior vice-president of soccer operations, Paul McDonough, admits he is looking forward to the challenge of building a brand new roster for the club.

The Lions will enter Major League Soccer in 2015 and in between then and now will go about constructing a fresh roster of players who are well-equipped to mix it with the best.

Former UConn and Wake Forest coach McDonough has been headhunted from soccer agency Wasserman Media Group and can't wait to start scouting players, alongside head coach Adrian Heath, who could become potential Orlando City stars.

"It is a challenge," McDonough told the Orlando Sentinel. "But I think my experiences in the past have helped prepare me for this job."

He added: "He's the head coach, so ultimately he needs the pieces to win. My job is to try to help him get the pieces that he needs.

"I think the energy around the team is great, the fans, the success they've had. And just the challenge of a blank canvas going into MLS - it's just a great opportunity I couldn't pass up."
