McDonald's Motherwell goals cost me a title - ex-Celtic ace Hartson

John Hartson has touched on two goals scored by Scott McDonald in 2005 which cost Celtic a Scottish Premier League title.

The Australian striker, who made himself known with a very successful Hoops career before joining Middlesbrough, netted twice for Motherwell on the final day of the season and Hartson has bemoaned that day as a title that got away.

"I won the title three times as a Celtic player," the Welshman wrote in his column for The Sun.

"It should have been five.

"We lost the league twice on the last day of the season.

"I'll never forget Scott McDonald's double for Motherwell at Fir Park in 2005.

"Or the day in 2003 when Rangers thrashed Dunfermline at Ibrox while we were beating Kilmarnock at their place."

But on the day when Celtic can clinch a 43rd league title, Hartson wants all the current Parkhead players to experience the feeling he had on three occasions during his time in Glasgow.

"The first time I won the league I had all my family out on the pitch and it was tremendous. The other times is fantastic, but not as memorable," he added.

"The Celtic lads who lift that trophy for the first time will soon know what I'm talking about."
