Celtic striker Scott McDonald revealed how he almost played international football for Scotland instead of Australia. The diminutive goal scorer admits he felt frustrated and uncertain about representing Australia at senior level after being a regular junior representative in the green and gold.
The feeling was so strong he considered pledging allegiances to the country where his parents were born.
"I was getting frustrated at not being involved with the Socceroos at that time and I felt maybe it was my time to get an opportunity," he said of being overlooked for many years by Australian selectors.
"Looking back at it now and the players that we have had in the past, I was wrong to think that, because the amount I have learned in the last couple of years has shown me why these players were playing at that top level."
