Scott McDonald says the aim of the Middlesbrough team is to get the fans back on side by producing positive results. The Australian striker, who turns 28 on Sunday, opened his Championship account for the season whilst having a hand in the other two goals as 'Boro defeated Barnsley 3-1 at Oakwell on Tuesday night and he says that more performances like that will get the Teessiders up and about.
"The manager's aim and the players' aim is to get that stadium full and the town buzzing and to get this team pushing back up this league to where we deserve to be," he told the club's official website.
"We're not here just to be part of this league - the fans and the chairman have ambitions and we want to go places.
"The fans were great at Barnsley and it was a big turnout, so well done to them. It was great to have their backing. Hopefully they'll come back for more now."
McDonald has formed a great relationship with new signing Marvin Emnes (six goals in four matches) and feels that manager Tony Mowbray does not necessarily have to go out and find any reinforcements after losing Kris Boyd and others in the summer.
"That doesn't concern us, we just get on with it," he added. "We had four or five strikers last year and we couldn't score between us! We'll take what we can at the moment.
"The team are doing really well from back to front and hopefully we can continue that against Birmingham (at the Riverside on Sunday)."
