"Everyone has to realise that we aren't the best in the world," he said after defeat to Tottenham. "We have got to work hard for what we get. It's going to be the same this year. If we want to be successful again, then we've got to work hard for it.

"Ability-wise, Spurs were better. Every time we got the ball, we gave it away. They didn't. So, if you are chasing it for 70-odd minutes, it's going to be difficult.

"It's hard. We're not in the same league as Spurs in regards to spending. It is frustrating from our point of view.

"We are a massive club but we have to play with what we've got. The gaffer knows that, as does everyone at the club and I think the supporters realise that, as well.

"But, if the manager can bring in someone who can help the team, then he'll do that. He has already said this. But it won't be any Tom, Dick or Harry. It will be a player he thinks will improve the team."
