McDermott eager to get stuck in at Leeds

New Leeds United boss Brian McDermott is ready to get immediately stuck in.

Former Reading boss McDermott was handed a three-year deal with the Championship side last night.

He will be joined by assistant Nigel Gibbs in the dugout for today's crunch Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday.

United have not won any of their last seven matches and are just five points above the drop zone.

Asked if he will be involved in the game, McDermott said: "I'll be right amongst it. There are five games to go and I have spoke to the caretaker manager Neil Redfearn and he will be on the bench with me and Nigel.

"We'll take control of the game. We've looked at the opposition and the most important thing is to get a result. I will be out to do that. I've managed roughly 200 matches and not had too many easy games in my life - that's the level we are playing at.

"You treat the opposition with the utmost respect, which we always do. We will do whatever we have to do.

"I want our players to play with no fear, which is really important to me."
