Reading boss Brian McDermott is delighted with the depth of his squad.

McDermott is just pleased to have spent the summer assembling a competitive squad, instead of selling to keep the club on an even footing.

He said: "Everyone will have their view, but that's a good thing. If Nick Shorey or Ian Harte starts at left-back then I think everyone in the crowd will be happy. I've also got Chris Gunter and Shaun Cummings at right-back and four centre-backs. It's a good position to be in."
