McDermott anxious to launch Reading spending spree

Reading boss Brian McDermott is spreading his net to strengthen his squad for their Premier League return.

The Daily Mail says Reading's owners are wrapping up the free transfer of Pavel Pogrebnyak, but McDermott still wants a defensive midfielder and another striker before facing Stoke City on the opening day.

Talks with Valenciennes' Carlos Sanchez have not gone to plan and Bolton have also shown interest. Reading may switch to another target.
