McCoist will again win over Rangers boo boys

Strength of character will see Rangers boss Ally McCoist get through the tough times.

They are the sentiments of former teammate John McDonald who has seen his old strike partner fight his way back from the depths of despair to shine brightly during his playing days.

McCoist is under pressure to get his 'Gers out of a form slump which has contributed to a poor start to their season in Scotland's Third Division.

The Ibrox outfit sit fourth on the fourth tier table with just two wins from five outings and have already been eliminated from the Ramsdens Cup at the hands of Queen of the South earlier this week.

It is a very poor run according to Rangers usual standards and surely the fans are feeling some frustration towards McCoist but McDonald says he will soon be back to his best just as he did back in 1985 when he was jeered by fans for missing a host of chances in a cup loss to Dundee at Ibrox.

"I still remember sitting in the bath next to Ally and I could still see the tears welling in his eyes, even as he held his face," McDonald said.

"Ally had missed a few sitters and I had never seen him so down as he was in the aftermath of the match.

"Some fans were waiting at the front door to slaughter him and he was scared to walk to his car.

"We won't see scenes like that again, not least because the fans love Ally for all he has done for the club over the years since then.

"Within five days he was back to his bubbly self after Dundee and scoring goals and that strength of character has been a feature of his career.

"Ally will turn it around. The fans have got to cut him just a little bit of slack.

"He turned it around in 1985 and he'll turn it around now."
