Former England and Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren is being considered by Newcastle United for the vacant manager's job.

The Guardian says in addition to new first-choice Mark Hughes, the Blackburn Rovers manager, senior Newcastle United sources last night said that the CVs of several candidates are being scrutinised, including those of Gerard Houllier, Jose Mourinho and McClaren.
