Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren admits it is a good feeling to see Fabricio Coloccini pen a new deal.
The Argentine centre-half has committed to the Magpies until the end of the 2016/17 season while retaining the captaincy on the eve of the new Premier League campaign, delighting manager McClaren.
"From day one at the club Fabricio has been a stand out character and I'm delighted we have secured his future with us," the boss told the Club's official website.
"Once we sat down together to iron things out, I knew straight away his heart was with the Club and the new contract was agreed very quickly.
"Fabricio is my captain. He is a leader, hugely respected throughout the club and a top-class player on top of that."
Newcastle kick off the new season with a home fixture against Southampton on Sunday.
