McClaren tells Blackburn's Bentley to handle boos

England boss Steve McClaren has little sympathy for Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley after he was booed by fans on Saturday.

"I can't do anything about it," said the England coach. "I don't want to be negative because the fans were excellent throughout.

"They gave us a great platform at the beginning and kept it up all the way through. And we need them again for Wednesday.

"It was disappointing, but players have to handle that. David Bentley has to handle that. He handles it the best way, with his performances on the park. Frank Lampard did exactly the same."

Asked if it was fair, McClaren said: "It's people's opinion. It's not fair or unfair, right or wrong. It happens. Deal with it."
