Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren admits there's still a lot of hurt to endure before the club turns itself around.
Supporters turned on the head coach for the first time following the midweek defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup, although managing director Lee Charnley says he has the full support of the hierarchy.
McClaren said: "We're going through change and change is painful, it's hard. Some people don't like change.
"Why does this club need change? Since last November this club has won five in 32. Everyone has been clamouring for change, that's why I'm here.
"We're changing a lot. Philosophy, culture, standards, training. Some people adapt quickly and some don't.
"It's necessary. We're changing the style of play, more attacking based and with more possession.
"We're struggling to transfer that onto the field at the moment. But you can't rush the process, although we would like to.
"We have to stick it out for the course and be strong. We've talked about that as a club – we will turn it around."
