Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren says their trip to La Manga will boost their Premier League run in.
McClaren was asked his thoughts on those who perceive the trip as a mid-season “jolly" in Spain.
He responded: “Definitely not. We could have gone to warmer climes and more luxurious places.
“It is a training camp and we believe there is a lot of work and preparation to be done.
“There are players coming back, we need work and togetherness because after the Chelsea game from Stoke onwards it's game after game.
“It's the most critical part of the season when you are coming into the last 10.
“We are in a position where we are still in that battle to climb up the league and get away from the bottom three."
