McClaren has two games to save Wolfsburg job

Steve McClaren is fighting for his future at Wolfsburg.

McClaren is facing the sack at Wolfsburg after being blamed for their poor start to the season.

The former England coach has two games to save his job, starting against Hoffenheim today and Energie Cottbus in the German Cup on Wednesday.

Wolfsburg are one of Germany's biggest spenders, but the board expect a return and have lost patience with their summer appointment.

Francisco Garcia Sanz, the club chairman, left McClaren looking increasingly isolated as he pointedly absolved managing director Dieter Hoeness of blame.

"We did not envisage being 14th in the table and are definitely not happy," he said. "But we still have every confidence in Dieter."

Former Middlesbrough boss McClaren tried to be philosophical, saying: "It's natural there will be speculation. I must just try and win on Saturday."
