FC Twente coach Steve McClaren is a big fan of Ajax star Luis Suarez.

The Daily Mail says Suarez has rattled in 16 goals already this season, which is why he has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona.

Jaap Stam is understood to be scouting for United on an occasional basis and will have supplied Old Trafford with regular bulletins. And if Sir Alex Ferguson rings his former United No 2 McClaren about Suarez, this is the message he will receive: "He's good. People ask me and I tell them that he can play Premier League.

"He's scored 16 goals already, he's tough, he's a threat and if anybody asks me in England, he's one of a few who could make the jump. I recommend somebody gets him in January - keep him away from our league!"
