Newcastle United legend Mickey Quinn has described manager Steve McClaren's spell at the club so far as a 'car crash'.
The former Derby County and FC Twente manager spent almost £50 million on transfers upon his arrival in the summer, but he is still searching for his first win with the Magpies as they languish near the bottom of the table.
Quinn told talkSPORT: "McClaren wasn't my choice as the next Newcastle manager, and at the beginning of the season I wondered which Steve McClaren we were going to get.
"Were we going to get the guy who was sacked by Derby, the wally with the brolly at England, or the guy who did a good job at Middlesbrough and FC Twente?
"I thought he'd come in for a fresh start, especially with talented new players coming in over the summer, but I'm afraid it's just been a car crash.
"And at the moment, Newcastle have got the wally with the brolly in charge…and the next three or four games will define his tenure.
"From day one he's looked under pressure, he doesn't look like he's enjoying the job.
"He keeps moaning that it's a tough job, but it's a privilege to manage Newcastle United! Yes, it comes with a bit of pressure, but you should enjoy it.
"If you can't enjoy playing in front of 52,000 fans at St James' Park, what are you in professional football for? I think they've lost sight of that.
"The Watford game was a pathetic, inept and embarrassing performance in front of 52,000 fans. If you've not going to play in that black and white shirt, then get off. It's just not good enough.
"There's no hunger, no desire and I'm afraid for McClaren that if they keep playing in the same way in their next two games – against Chelsea and Manchester City – it's going to be a cricket score."
