Steve McClaren is set to take charge of Nottingham Forest after Billy Davies' departure.
Talks are well advanced and McClaren is ready to take on the challenge.
A source close to the negotiations told The Sun: "He is the outstanding candidate, he is desperate to get back into football and Forest is a huge club.
"It's a challenge and he seems to be more than up for the challenge."
McClaren has been out of work since he was axed by German side Wolfsburg in February and has been snubbed for several Premier League posts.
