Former Sunderland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy says Steven Fletcher would be a success on Wearside.

The Black Cats put in an £11million bid for Fletcher last week and ­McCarthy feels they will have to pay more to get their man.

McCarthy said: "That first season Kevin had with us, he was brilliant. He hasn't got one eye on getting out the door.

"And Steve is worth every penny Sunderland have offered for him. If they can get him for £10m it will be a steal."
