McCarthy says Wolves will take time over player contracts

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy says they'll take their time over new contracts.

The likes of Stephen Ward and Carl Ikeme have been handed fresh terms, but McCarthy claims the powers that be at Molineux will decide when the time is right to hand out more contracts.

"What you will find is that, like we did with Kevin Doyle and anybody else, is that we are pro-active and fully aware when people are coming up to their contracts," he told the club's official website.

"We will be the ones that move on that and sort it out without having to put it through the press - we are on the ball and Jez (Moxey) is a different class in that.

"I was always told a little bit of insecurity makes you work harder - and it does. I was told that by a very good pal of mine on my first day in the office at Millwall.

"He said: 'How ya doin'?' And I replied: 'Great mate - there's a big butterfly with big boots on rampaging round in my stomach'.

"And he said a little of insecurity makes you work harder - I thought that will do for me."
