Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy feels they're on their way to Premier League safety.

They are now within two points of hauling themselves out of the drop zone, and Republic of Ireland international McCarthy believes they are capable of taking that next step.

"The main thing is that we are not worried," the highly-rated midfielder told Sky Sports News HD.

"We know we are good enough to stay in the Premier League. We have got a good enough squad and it is just about putting a good enough run of results together to kick us up that table.

"I think it's just a matter of time if we keep playing, keep passing the ball. I'm sure we will kick on."
